Selective Admissions Programs
Certain professional/technical programs in the Workforce Education Division have additional admission requirements. Admission to Yakima Valley College (YVC) does not guarantee entrance to the following programs. Students must meet the application deadlines and entrance requirements prescribed by the program.

- Contact the department directly for an application packet.
- Submit all required paperwork by the program deadlines.
- Complete all required prerequisites.
YVC offers a unique approach for students to obtain a variety of health profession certificates or degrees in Medical Assisting, Medical Billing & Coding, Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy, Surgical Technology, and Medical Interpreter.
Yakima Valley College offers a unique approach to obtain a variety of health profession certificates or degrees. Students complete classes delivered in a modular format, providing a distinctive learning environment which fits a variety of learning styles and individualized student schedules.

Bachelor of Applied Science in Agricultural Sciences
The Bachelor of Applied Science in Agricultural Sciences (BASAG) is designed for students who have earned an applied associate’s degree and seek a pathway to advance their education by pursuing a four-year degree. The program is offered in a hybrid format and classes take place in the evening two times per week with continued instruction and interaction online. The BASAG program follows a cohort model and accepts students on an annual basis each fall.
Bachelor of Applied Science in Business Management
The Bachelor of Applied Science in Business Management (BASM) is designed for students who have earned an applied associate’s degree and seek a pathway to an applied bachelor’s degree. The pathway combines lower-division technical and transfer courses with upper-division credits in business management resulting in an application-oriented four-year degree.
Classes are offered during the evening, with each class occurring one time per week for two hours. Continued instruction and student interaction take place online. Full-time students, those taking 15 credits per quarter, can finish the program in two years upon completion of all prerequisites. Courses are offered during the fall, winter, and spring quarters. This program is also open for part-time enrollment.
Bachelor of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene
The Bachelor of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene (BASDH) provides a curriculum which reflects the core values of the profession, instills life-long learning appreciation, and promotes student development as a caring, clinically proficient and ethical entry-level dental hygienists prepared to serve a diverse community in both private and public settings.
Dental hygiene students are enrolled full time only, and are often in classes and clinics up to and occasionally exceeding eight hours a day, five days a week. Guest speakers and community outreach events are occasionally planned outside of normally scheduled class times. In addition, students need to study and contact patients in the evening hours. The curriculum consists of six quarters of professional education and clinical experience preceded by a demanding program of prerequisite courses.
Bachelor of Applied Science BASDH Bridge Program
The Bridge Program offers Registered Dental Hygienists who have earned an Associate of Applied Science degree a pathway to earn a Bachelor of Applied Science Dental Hygiene (BASDH).
Graduates of Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) approved Dental Hygiene programs are eligible to apply for the YVC BASDH Bridge Program. A minimum of 85 credits in Dental Hygiene coursework with grades of C-(1.7) or above and a cumulative Dental Hygiene Program GPA of 2.5 or above are required.
An individual learning program will be created for each BASDH Bridge Program applicant based on individual transcript evaluation.
Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Technology Networking – System Administration
The Bachelor of Applied Science in Information Technology Networking – System Administration (BASIT) degree is designed for students who have earned an applied associate degree and need a pathway to an applied bachelor’s degree. This pathway combines lower-division technical and transfer courses with upper-division credits in Information Technology, resulting in an application-oriented, four-year degree. Full-time students are generally able to complete the degree in as few as two years. Upon admission, students may start the program the following quarter.
Classes are offered during the evening, with each class occurring one time per week for two hours. Continued instruction and student interaction take place online. This degree will broaden and deepen students’ foundational knowledge, adding general education, theory, advanced technical and professional skills, and integrative collaborating learning.
Bachelor of Applied Science in Teacher Education
The Bachelor of Applied Science in Teacher Education integrates rigorous applied curriculum and residency experience. The BAS Teacher Education (BAS-TE) program prepares individuals for a Washington State Teacher Certificate in Elementary Education (K-8), with additional optional endorsements in English Language Learner (ELL) and Early Childhood Education (ECE).
The Teacher Education program is residency-based. Candidates complete an intensive Residency Experience (student teaching) that requires hands-on work in K-8 classrooms under the guidance of a Mentor Teacher and Field Supervisor within our local partner schools.
In addition to residency experiences, candidates complete core courses which are delivered in a hybrid format: face-to-face evening classes and online.
The YVC Nursing Program offers an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) that is six quarters in length with experiences in gerontological nursing, pediatric nursing, medical-surgical nursing, obstetrical nursing, critical care nursing, oncology nursing, mental health nursing, and emergency nursing.
Associate Degree in Nursing
Yakima Valley College offers a six-quarter program (two academic years) that leads to an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). Most students complete a year of pre/co-requisite and supporting courses prior to entry. Nursing courses proceed consecutively with objectives for each course accomplished before the student proceeds to the next course. The ADN program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and approved by the Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission. Graduates of this ADN program are eligible to take the licensure examination for Registered Nursing.
Program Locations
The six-quarter program is offered fall, winter, and spring on the YVC Yakima campus. Students are admitted fall, winter and spring quarters, subject to a sufficient number of qualified applicants.
Practical Nursing Option
Students who successfully complete the first four quarters of the nursing program are eligible to take the licensing exam for practical nursing. The practical nursing option is approved by the Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission.
The YVC Radiologic Sciences Program strives to graduate individuals who are qualified in the use of ionizing radiation for the purpose of diagnostic imaging.
This is a sequenced program of courses that fulfill the educational objectives established by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists and competencies outlined by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. The program commences in June of each year. After successful completion of the 8-quarter program, students are granted an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Radiologic Technology and are eligible to apply and to take the national exam for American Registry of Radiologic Technology, a nationally recognized examination.
The Veterinary Technology Program is a two-year course of study leading to an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology. Successful completion of the program should provide the graduate with the credentials and basic information for successful completion of the national and state board examinations leading to licensing as a Veterinary Technician.
YVC's Veterinary Technology Program is staffed by clinically-experienced, licensed veterinarians and veterinary technicians. Facilities include small animal wards, and horses housed at an off-campus facility. The program is fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
This is a full-time 2-year (6 quarters) program which starts each fall.

The Running Start Program is a partnership between Yakima Valley College (YVC) and Washington State public high schools. The program offers eligible high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to enroll in regular college classes on our campus and to receive both high school and college credit for those classes.
The Running Start program allows qualified high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to enroll in college-level classes (100 level or above) that, with careful planning, apply to both their high school graduation and university transfer or professional technical degree. If you’re thinking about Running Start, there are many things to consider. We’re here to help if you have questions about this important decision.
The Running Start program is available fall, winter, spring and summer quarters. You may enroll simultaneously in high school and college classes, or solely in college classes. You may enroll full-time or part-time. The program saves you money because college tuition as you are only responsible for books and fees.
CTE Dual Credit classes are taught at your high school or skills center and integrates academics with technical development to help prepare you for careers related to professional/technical occupations. High school students have the opportunity to get a jump start on their career by preparing for a college technical degree program while at their local high school.
All CTE Dual Credit courses offer dual credit, meaning students earn high school and college credit for successfully completing the same class. You can earn both high school and community college credit (this is called dual credit) for completing select high school courses with a grade “B+” or better.

Yakima Valley College Upward Bound (YVC UB) provides fundamental support to target high school participants in their preparation for college entrance. Target schools are Sunnyside, Granger, Toppenish, and Wapato High Schools. YVC UB serves high school students from low-income families and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree.
Our targeted summer academic program, tutoring services, learning skills workshops, and events support participants' succeed in their pre-college academic performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. The overall goal of YVC UB is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from college in a major of their choice.
Yakima Valley Technical Skills Center (YV-TECH) began its operation in 1977 with six programs; today that number has increased to 23 programs. Operating as a co-op YV-TECH offers technical career programs to local high schools. YV-TECH operates under a ten-member administrative council made up of ten superintendents who are the governing body for YV-TECH.
YV-TECH provides free academic and hands-on technical career training to high school students from sixteen school districts.
YV-TECH works closely with Yakima Valley College, Perry Technical Institute, The Pacific NW Regional Council of Carpenters, Job Corp, The City of Yakima, and other technical and community colleges to provide advanced placement, apprenticeship training, and free college credits for high school students. YV-TECH is currently developing programs in partnership with Boeing, Puget Sound Ship Yard, and the Central Washington Police Academy. Currently, over 90 percent of the YV-TECH programs connect to post-secondary training. This significantly reduces student-training time, costs, and allows students early entrance into the workforce with entry-level industrial skills.
YV-TECH has served over 18,000 students since its opening and many have gone on to work as owners, operators, managers, supervisors, and superintendents in and around our community.
