We are tremendously grateful this fall to see more students return to campus. For some YVC students, the start of this quarter was the first time they stepped foot on our Yakima or Grandview campuses.

The strong community we enjoy at YVC is something that has distinguished us ever since our founding. With more opportunities for students to explore their interests through student clubs, participate in cultural events or support our athletics teams, we’ve witnessed a renewal of that community spirit this quarter.

In this Fall 2022 edition of YVC Voice, we showcase a number of stories that highlight how our college continually works to better serve the community — including both our current students and our broader community. You’ll read about the first cohort of our new Bachelor of Applied Science in Agricultural Sciences, created to ensure the long-term vitality of our region’s agriculture industry. In another story, you’ll learn how YVC and the College Success Foundation are partnering to help more students from underserved communities and low-income households successfully earn a post-secondary credential. And you’ll find out how our Writing Centers have recently made significant changes to both their physical spaces and how they help students in order to create a more welcoming, inclusive environment.

Finally, it is a pleasure to note that this fall we enjoyed a significant uptick in enrollment. Over the past two years, many people delayed their educational plans amidst the COVID pandemic and the challenges it created. Earning a post-secondary credential is essential to building a better life, so it is an extremely positive development for our entire region that more people are working toward a degree or certificate that will prepare them for well-paying jobs that are in-demand here in the Yakima Valley.

Sincerely,

Linda Kaminski, Ed.D.
