The Yakima Valley College Drama Department will host auditions for its spring production, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” by Dale Wasserman based on a novel by Ken Kesey and arranged with Concord Theatricals. Auditions will run Thursday, April 3 and Friday, April 4 from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. in YVC’s Kendall Hall Auditorium (Building 12) on the Yakima Campus.

Roles are available for 12 males and four females. An ethnically diverse cast is desired with at least one male character of Native American descent. Community members are encouraged to audition, but YVC students will be given preference when casting. Ray Pritchard, drama instructor, will direct the production.

About the play
After being convicted of a petty crime, a charming, rebellious rogue named McMurphy contrives to serve his short sentence in an airy mental institution rather than in a prison. This, he soon learns, was a mistake. He immediately clashes with the authoritarian head nurse, a fierce martinet named Nurse Ratched. Despite Ratched's strict reign, McMurphy quickly takes over the yard, leading others out of introversion, staging a revolt so that they can see the World Series on television, and arranging a rollicking midnight party with liquor and women. But McMurphy's brash insubordination has its consequences
