If your high school is not hosting an information night, please feel free to attend any other convenient session. Contact your high school’s counseling office or visit yvcc.edu/runningstart for information about the Running Start Program at YVC.

The Running Start Program offers eligible high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to enroll in college classes at YVC’s Yakima and Grandview campuses, as well as online classes, and receive both high school and college credit. Public, private and homeschool students are eligible for Running Start.

“I wanted to attend the Running Start program because it would help me get my degree in a shorter amount of time,” said student Jasmeen Chauhan.

According to Chauhan, it’s easier for her to succeed in her college classes than some of her high school classes.

“I used to be a student who would procrastinate a lot, but now I don’t. I think it has to do with the way [YVC instructors] teach. Most of the teachers I have here give both a lecture and do activities where they help you out learning the content.”

Running Start students can:

  • Get a head start on college by earning up to two years of college credit
  • Attend classes full- or part-time
  • Select and sample diverse classes
  • Transition to college life
  • Save thousands of dollars earning their college degree and enter their career more quickly

Plan now for Fall Quarter 2025, priority applications to participate in Running Start are due April 4, final deadline is August 7. More dates will be scheduled soon.
